Finding Beer: Two More Days, And We Start

Finding Beer

Beer from Southeast US

There are two more days until the project officially kicks off, but that doesn’t mean there hasn’t been much work behind the scenes finding beer and getting setup. Over the past few weeks, I have been researching which states I can easily obtain beer from and which will present a challenge. Since the goal is to sample the beer in order of statehood, I have been focusing my efforts on the first few weeks of the year. The 13 colonies, will get me into April:

  1. Delaware
  2. Pennsylvania
  3. New Jersey
  4. Georgia
  5. Connecticut
  6. Massachusetts
  7. Maryland
  8. South Carolina
  9. New Hampshire
  10. Virginia
  11. New York
  12. North Carolina
  13. Rhode Island

I can easily obtain beer from 8 out of the 13 states  above from a local craft beer store. That left me on a search for beer from 5 states:

  • New Jersey
  • Georgia
  • South Carolina
  • Virginia
  • North Carolina

Finding Beer

Finding beer from some of these states is a challenge. Luckily, I just happened to be driving south to Alabama for the holidays and had the opportunity to do some collecting. During this trip I also purchased beer from a few other states that I saw as a potential issue down the road. (Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, etc.) In the end, I brought home 25 different kinds of beer from 11 different states. A successful run.

Next week will kick off with Delaware. I tried to get my hands on 16 Mile and Twin Lakes and a few other Delaware Beer, but failed to locate any on my route. Next week will be all Dogfish Head.

Hope you stick along for the adventure.

P.S. There are a few states already starting to be concern. If you can provide assistance with beer from North Dakota and West Virginia, drop me an email.
